Let’s be honest, maintaining orderly kitchen cabinets is a daunting task. Kitchens hide a lot of stuff behind closed doors. Many kitchen items get used and re-stocked regularly; traditional storage methods just won’t cut it. It’s important to design systems that withstand the challenges of real life.

I’m a big convert to the idea of using hidden spaces for organization. Once I realized that my cabinet doors offered me for storage, I was hooked! The door to my pantry, linen closet, and my son’s small, organized closet have all become proper storage spaces.

The best part? A major kitchen overhaul isn’t required to implement kitchen cabinet organization. Life is more enjoyable when its clutter free.

    Dry Food Storage

I keep all of our dry goods in our very organized small food pantry here, so you can get lots more tips in that post. However, I have been collecting these OXO pop airtight food storage containers for years and I LOVE them.

There are a variety of sizes for flour, pasta, rice, and smaller ones for brown sugar or chocolate chips. The ones I have are more heavy duty than other brands and the pop top has never stopped working in years of use.

A clear container filled with cereal for dry food storage.

    Cereal Storage

These 1.5-gallon Rubbermaid containers are what I personally have used for years to contain cereal and oatmeal. They will fit a whole regular sized box of cereal with the bag (or some family size boxes without the bag). They are durable, easy to see, and the back hand grip area makes it much easier for small hands.

**Pro Tip: My son usually doesn’t finish a whole box of cereal by himself which means it can go stale. For this reason, I recommend keeping the cereal in the bag inside the container. Fold the bag inside the container to keep the cereal fresher for much longer as there is less cereal and more air.

Under shelf baskets made of wire with tea and coffee supplies in them.

    Under Shelf Baskets

I love these for snacks and other small items that might get lost in a deep bin. They can work on both pantry shelves or in upper cabinets. The only thing I would recommend is finding some that won’t get in the way of any boxes or bins on top of the shelf.
