It has been an extraordinary 10 years since we purchased our fixer upper and got busy renovating and decorating! In our particular case, every single surface in the house had to be repaired or replaced. Almost every item in the house is a DIY of some kind and you can find lots more under my Home Projects Tab.
Wanna know what paint colors I used? Or dying to know where I found that perfect home decor piece? Well, you are in the right place, my friend! Outdoors

Exterior doors famously make colors appear much lighter, and my front door is painted Valspar Indigo Streamer, which I love the contrast with everything else. I bought these self-watering black pots many years ago, and the white pots and rug were from Target. Since my entrance is uncovered, I have to replace the coir rug every few years with a custom doormat from Etsy.

Living Room
The paint colors in this room are the same as in the rest of the main area including Valspar Oatland’s Subtle Taupe and Pale Bloom for the fireplace and baseboards. The entertainment center (makeover here) is painted in Fusion Mineral Champlain.

Office
The office is divided in half lengthwise with a generous space for my crafting area and a more masculine, stately office area. Of course, a smaller area for our son to do his homework and school projects.

Kitchen
The kitchen was one of our first projects in this house. While everyone was painting all of their cabinets white, I elected to keep these in their original medium brown stain. They were in great shape and, frankly, my husband used his rare veto before I would come up with any such idea.

Basement Bathroom
This room presented unique challenges as there is no natural light at all and the basement was nothing but a concrete slab to start with.

Basement Main Room
This area is still in progress as I write this, but it’s coming along quite nicely so I thought I would share how it is coming together so far.

*Cabinet Paint Color Mix: For the cabinets (and the doors), I lightened Fusion Mineral Cast Iron just a bit. The exact quantities were 4 pints of Cast Iron + ¾ cup of Victorian Lace, and I had about 1 pint leftover for touch ups.

Where did you find that storage organizer that is in the laundry room between the washer and dryer? Great idea.

Thank you! I haven’t seen my exact model for a bit, but this one also has drawers and is the same dimensions. I like the drawers rather than the roller style because our machines are on a platform. However, this rolling cart (link) is very convenient if you like the rolling version.

Hello. I found your blog when searching for kitchen island makeovers. I was amazed how much your kitchen layout looks like mine and after seeing more pictures realize we have the same exact house built by Richmond American! I also live in Maryland, so it make sense. I was wondering what you did with the space to the left of the door (the one that leads into the laundry). It’s that little space that’s like a shelf, but triangular shape. It actually faces the laundry room. Thanks

Haha, howdy, neighbor! I am always delighted to hear from people in the area who have a similar build as our house. I know exactly the area to which you are referring! That triangle half wall is definitely an odd space. To be honest, I have a tall vase in it right now with willow branches and a picture frame. I do use that area mostly for tall seasonal decor (i.e. a small christmas tree, egg topiaries in the spring, etc.) That spot, at least for our family, always seems to collect clutter because it is right next to the stairs. I was originally going to add in several shelves spaced evenly nearly to the ceiling and use it as a display area. However, I have a gallery style wall in the space between the stairs so I don’t really need another “display area” so close in proximity. I feel that it would look cluttered. Thank you for writing and I hope you will share what you decide to do with it. For much of the main floor, I am holding off the final decorating touches until we get all of the flooring replaced with hardwoods so you would inspire me.
