Who is ready for some outdoor Halloween decoration ideas?! It was 90 degrees this past weekend, but I am pumped for everything SPOOK-TACULAR! While you’re here, check out our roundups of Impressive Outdoor Halloween Decorations and Easy DIY Halloween Decorations and for even more ideas.
While I often decorate a vintage Halloween mantel inside, I love a porch that sets the mood before anyone even rings the bell - whether that's cozy autumn warmth or full-on spooky theater.
Halloween Front Porch Ideas
Below are my 20 favorite Halloween porch decorating ideas, scaled for small stoops and grand front porches alike. Most of these use things you probably already have or you may substitute some dollar-store finds.
Tombstones and Skeletons

Halloween Porch #1: Make these super easy DIY tombstones from this tutorial to scare up a good time! You can make them from foam or scrap wood. I like that they mixed the orange pumpkins with some white skulls and jack o’ lanterns for something different.
What's great about this outdoor Halloween outdoor decoration idea is the simple color scheme of orange and black. Repetition makes the elements stand out, so you can get a garish look for cheap.

Halloween Porch #2: I'm in love with these awesome Dead and Breakfast signs for Halloween! Check out more of this knock-you-dead porch! It's a unique outdoor theme that is fun and mischievous.
Eerie Jack O’ Lanterns

Halloween Porch #3: I couldn't do a list of Halloween porch décor without mentioning my favorite DIY Pumpkin Topiary. These light up really well and the sinister carved pumpkins are so fun to greet the trick or treaters with.
I don't have a covered porch, so these are like a gateway to getting the candy. Whether you go with classic bright orange pumpkins or a chic white color scheme, they'll add that perfect pop of silly fright.

Halloween Porch #4: If your house has a covered and cozy area like this one from @houseonlouisemeadow highlighting the walkway is the way to go. The hanging witch hats in particular add to the vibe while everything still remains cozy and easily lasts into fall with a few changes.
Hang witches' hats from the porch ceiling using fishing line to make them look like they're floating. It's a simple trick that adds a playful, magical touch.

Halloween Porch #5: The pumpkin topiaries got some updated style on our Witch Halloween porch, which you can see more of in this post.
At night, it is lit up but also very spooky with our DIY lanterns, candles, dancing witches, window animations and a lighted outdoor sign. I updated it further with a creeping fog machine (tutorial) over the steps.
Creatures of the Night

Halloween Porch #6 DIY Halloween Wreath: Ornaments aren't just for Christmas! The ornament wreath’s colors scheme gives it that classic Halloween feel, but the spider in the middle really brings home the creepiness and is a fun way to personalize your front door.
For me, spiders are the absolute creepiest thing. I'd rather battle a horde of zombies than take on one giant spider. EEK!

Halloween Porch #7: Witches wear many Hats Sign How awesome is this Halloween marker sign?! The signs have a twine bow detail that makes them realistic and welcoming. Throw some cobwebs around it, maybe a black cat, and the classic pumpkins to stake into the ground to complete the whimsical look.
*Tip: It’s made of wood and is top coated for protection, but you can rub a bit of glue around the edges to keep water from getting into them if necessary.

Halloween Porch #8: Purchase or create your own demonic scarecrow pumpkin yard stakes. On Etsy, there are lots of silhouette examples including black cats, classic movie monsters, and the Sanderson Sisters of Hocus Pocus. One really cool idea I saw was to put a flashlight in front of these yard stakes and project the shadows onto a flat surface like a garage door. Larger than life!!!

Halloween Porch #9: Who called the ghosts?! I love how compact this Ghosts theme from Stephanie Hanna is for easy storage, but it will make the neighbors stop and stare!
If you don't have a huge porch and want some small decorations, it's a good idea to feature just one unique element as a sort of centerpiece and surround it with smaller scary elements like the blackbirds, jack-o-lanterns, cobwebs, and bats.
With a safety pin and long ropes, you can hang ghostly figures or other Halloween-themed decorations. It adds a bit of movement to make your setup more dynamic.
Wicked Witches

Halloween Porch #10: Hilarious door mats are great to add to your decor. This DIY doormat from Longwood Lane is really simple to make and fun! Spray paint or a paint dabber and a simple stencil make this a quick afternoon project.
If you're looking for outdoor ideas with a sense of humor, door mats are so easy!

Halloween Porch #11: Lifesized humanoid figures. These witches holding hands circle decoration is one of my favorite newest additions and work well on porches, either seated in chairs or standing up. There is something seriously creepy awesome about soulless humanoid figures dancing around your yard.
Creepy DIY Scenes

Creepy Halloween Gathering Idea #12: This creepy fun scene from Atta Girl Says is one of my favorites!
The small details like the lanterns, cobwebs all over like garland, and the apothecary jars complete the spooky look. This is definitely one of the most creative outdoor Halloween decoration scenes I've seen.

Halloween Porch #13: Who doesn’t love lazy decorating?! This decayed witchy scene is perfectly haunting! What I love most about this concept is that neglect is absolutely welcome. From breezy dead leaf piles to showcasing those dead plant pots, it sets the mood and you aren’t putting off cleaning – it’s on purpose!
You can also scatter corn stalks and hay bales around your front door or on your porch steps. They're relatively cheap, fit the rustic vibe, and scream Fall and Halloween all in one.

Halloween Porch #14: This bold black and white porch features a bold pumpkin arch, and an arrangement of pumpkins and fall foliage. The skeleton poking out of the mums is my favorite cheeky part!

DIY Man Eating Plants: How about man eating plants?! This creative and impressive idea utilizes recycled materials and Dollar Store items to create the entire sculpture. Imagine this guy greeting trick or treater guests with mouth wide open!

Trash Bag Spider Webs: One of the easiest and cheapest crafts to decorate your entryway, but also amazingly effective! I love the idea of taping them to the windows, but these would also work great on garage doors, mailboxes, or creating some creepy crawly corners.

Animated Projections: All you need is a projector, a form like these 3 pumpkins, and a small speaker to bring your creations to life! These Singing pumpkins were a HUGE HIT last year at trunk or treats and in the neighborhood! I have a tutorial on how I use 3 different setups for holiday window animations every year.
Cheap Halloween Porch Ideas
Looking to take your Halloween porch decorations up a notch? Here are some other fun and creative ways to bring that spooky spirit to life:
- Spider Webs and Fake Spiders: Drape these spider webs across your porch railings and front door for an eerie vibe. Toss in a few fake spiders, and done!
- Flameless Candles and Lanterns: Light up your porch with flameless candles inside black lanterns or along the porch steps. It's a great way to create that spooky glow while keeping everything safe for the little trick-or-treaters.
- Paper Bats and Paper Lanterns: Paper isn’t going to be weatherproof, but you can laminate paper bats and hang them around your porch or scatter them across the front yard. Another option is to cut them out of vinyl on a Cricut or similar craft cutting machine in spooky colors.
- String Lights and Light Sticks: Wrap some string lights or light sticks around your porch ceiling or railings to create an eerie glow. It's one of the easiest ways to add just the right amount of light. I also use torch flame candlebra bulbs.
- Layering with Vintage Crates: Use cheap plant pots turned upside down or repurposed crates to display decorative pumpkins, black cats, and other items. It's a great way to add some height and character to a display.
- Ouija Board Rug and Ghoulish Glow: For an extra spooky vibe, place an Ouija board rug at your front door and surround it with glowing decorations or flameless candles for that perfect ghoulish glow. It's sure to set the tone if you have a Halloween party!
There are plenty of ways to bring your Halloween porch decor to life. With a little creativity and personal style, you can create a spooky, fun, and welcoming space that everyone will love this Halloween season. Which of these Halloween Front Porch Decorations will you be including this year?
